Meet your 2024 Captains

Lady Captain - Eleanor Walker

Eleanor was born in the Southeast of Ireland and trained as a registered nursebefore taking up midwifery in Edinburgh, living in Scotland for many years. Whilst in Edinburgh she met her future husband Derek and they have been married for over thirty years. She has three children and a new grandchild - the next golfing generation. Her son, Alistair, is a member of the club and is the current Club Champion.

Eleanor had worked for over 40 years in the Health Service, the majority of her career has been within Maternity Services. She has now partially retired.

Eleanor joined Vicars Cross in 2016. It was her first club. She has loved been part of the ladies
section and found the club friendly and welcoming. She has played an active part on the Ladies
Committee and has held the post of Honorary Handicap Secretary for the last four years. Her most
successful golfing season to date was 2022, when she won the Presidents Cup, Redfern Brooch, Coronation Cup and Foursomes Knockout.
In her ‘golf’ free time, she enjoys going to the gym, practicing Yoga and Pilates. She plays badminton
socially with friends and is a keen park runner. She is planning to complete her 100th park run this
year in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. She is a member of a book club locally and loves travelling.

Men's Captain - Rob Thomas

Robert was born at Clatterbridge hospital in April 1958, and lived with his adopted new family in Cheadle, near Stockport. Rob was introduced to Golf by his dad, first playing at the age of ten at Houldsworth GC, then moving to Cheadle GC.
Rob had his first of four hole in ones at 14 years old.
The family moved to the Wirral when Rob was 18, taking the White Lion pub in Childer Thornton.
Rob started working in the motor trade, where he spent the next thirty eight, before retiring two years ago.
Rob has now been a member of Vicars Cross for 44 years, and loves every game he played. Rob is proud to be you Captain, and looks forward to the season ahead.
