The Course

The Course

What a difference a week makes!

After the relentless weather we just all needed a break. Thankfully it came and we have been able to get 90% of the course cut and even been able to start to refine some surfaces and start to look like a golf course.

The Greens remain in good shape.
We are slitting and brushing each week to refine the surface and encourage new growth. We hope to start top dressing in the next few weeks. We have also started the summer fertiliser program. We will also look to tine at some point to maintain airflow to the roots.

As most of the course is cut the damage caused over the winter is starting to roll back down. As we divot the fairways and semi rough we will look to fill any of the larger ruts as we go.

The lads have worked really hard on finishing off the bunkers and they are growing in nicely. They are also clearing up the last of the tree work ready for the stump grinder.

I know some of you are interested to know more detail about aspects of the course programme. You can read my detailed Course Report on the Noticeboard each month.

Finally, as you all know I believe to improve our course we must develop our staff. Congratulations go to Jamie who has passed his NVQ2 in greenkeeping, Russ and Dave who both passed the chainsaw 30,31 & 32 qualifications. George and Dylan have started their NVQ 3 & 2 respectively.

Fingers crossed the weather gods are kind and for a great summer of golf here at Vicars Cross.
